  • Bait fishermen do well using worms, salmon eggs, Power Bait and marshmallows. Fly fishermen in float tubes do the best using black or green wet fly combinations at the stream inlet.

Bilk Creek Reservoir Description

Access - Travel 31 miles north of Winnemucca on US 95 to the junction of SR 140, then 40 miles west to the “Nine Mile Road” turnoff. This road may be trouble during the “rainy” season. Bilk Creek Reservoir is a privately owned and operated irrigation impoundment situated in central Humboldt County. The reservoir was constructed during the 1950s. The average depth of the reservoir is 10 feet, with a maximum depth of 17 feet near the spillway. Bilk Creek Reservoir covers 60 surface acres and stores 670 acre feet of water. Rainbow trout are the prevalent catch, however largemouth bass are starting to show up in the creel. The best times to fish are May, June, October and November. Limited primitive camping is available on the south and west shoreline. These facilities are located on private land and should be treated accordingly. Season is open year around, any hour of the day or night. Limit is 5 trout, daily and in possession. No live bait permitted. Average water flows from the Lovely Valley watershed should fill the reservoir by May. The water will probably be turbid (muddy) following run-off, but should clear up by June. With adequate flows in Bilk Creek, anticipated irrigation should not reduce reservoir storage by more than 25 percent before September. Fishing should be good on stocked rainbow trout through June and again in September and October. A few trout up to 16 inches in length have started showing up in the creel in the past year. Largemouth bass have really taken off with 10 to 12 inch fish readily available and a few bass reaching 3 pounds.
